Did you hear that? The thundering outside?
No wait a minute....those were the sounds of teengers thundering down the stairs after catching a whiff of these mini miracles baking in my oven!
A few weeks ago Garden Lites invited me to review a few of their products and I started with this Superfood Veggie Cakes. They are Gluten-Free, Soy Free, Peanut Free and Tree Nut Free. I heard rumors that they will soon have a Vegan version of some of their products.
With my busy schedule, and rarely being home these days, I really value foods that are easy to prepare. Pair that with something that actually tastes not only good, but REALLY REALLY GOOD, and you have sold me for a lifetime! I must say that starting the process of sampling and reviewing is probably unwise to do while there are teenagers hanging out at my house. But the Superfood Veggie Cakes were extremely well received, by them AND me!
When I opened the package, I found that the Veggie Cakes were thoughtfully packaged individually which makes it almost a guarantee that they will not get freezer burned and preserves the complete freshness of the product.
I decided to just cook them all at once because of the teenager situation and because I was in the mood for a savory snack.
In the 20 minutes it took to prepare and bake, I could hear the sounds of hungry voices upstairs saying "What is your mom cooking?" It smells like really tasty food!" So when I finally pulled them out of the oven and called them to come and have a taste, we were all salivating over the delicious smell - it smelled like a homemade quiche or something similar baking.
The thing I was surprised the most about was the taste. It really tastes like something homemade!!! They taste like something I would make from scratch, but lord knows I have no time for anymore! I can visualize people of almost any age eating these. From toddlers to teens to adults to elderly. The texture is much like a quiche or an omelette and would make it easy for babies or older people to chew - plus providing vital nutrients! Just look at the ingredients (listed in this order)!!! Broccoli, Carrots, Cauliflower, Red Bell Peppers, Kale, Onions, Zucchini, Brown Rice, Eggs, Corn Starch and Seasoning.
In conclusion: I can see myself stocking up on these for quick breakfasts, light meals, snacks and even appetizers for company YOU. HAVE. GOT. TO. TRY. THESE!
